Rob MacMillanLifelong Sailor and Racer; President, Quantum Sails Newport; Team Captain, 11th Hour Racing Rob is the inspiration behind 11th Hour Racing. 11th Hour Racing looks to teams on the winning podium, whose actions will promote healthy interaction with the world's water systems and will serve as good role models for other sailors: "Winning makes everything better." Rob is also a sailmaker and as owner and president of Quantum Sails Newport, is working with the state of Rhode Island to make his sail loft more energy efficient, one degree at a time. |
Tim HealyProfessional Sailor and Racer; Principal Partner, Quantum Sails Newport Tim started his sail making career in 1995 after college graduation. He currently holds the 2010 J/24 World Championship and has won eighteen other major one design titles in multiple one-design classes. Tim was a finalist for the Rolex Yachtsman of the Year in 2003 and 2010. His competitive sailing began in Blue Jays at Niantic Bay Yacht Club in the early 1980s. While attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland he was a three-time All American and won the Collegiate Sloop National Championship his junior year as well as A-division at dinghy Nationals his senior year. Tim’s one design class experience includes the Shields, Lightning, J/22, J/24, J/80, Etchells, Interclub, Atlantic, Blue Jay, International 420, 470 and 49er. Tim is from Niantic, CT and currently resides in Jamestown, RI with his wife and two sons. He is honored to a member of the 11thHour Racing Team and believes strongly in the Sailors of the Sea environmental initiatives. |
Nick HalmosCaptain, Owner of Cutlass; Founder, CityBlooms; Outdoorsman Captain of the sailing team at Brown University, Nick focused on the Melges 24 Class for the five post-college years, competing across North America and Europe. In 2009, after several relatively “dry” years as a graduate student in Tennessee, he turned his attention offshore, leading a successful, strong campaign on the Class 40 Cutlass. Nick's success and approach has led to collaboration with Team 11th Hour Racing where Cutlass will compete in a series of prominent ocean-racing events, developing techniques and technologies to further reduce the environmental impact of sailing and help preserve the oceans for future generations. Nick recently moved to Santa Cruz, California where he founded CityBlooms, urban agriculture start-up that aims to grow fresh organic food in the inner city environment. Nick is a pilot, and enjoys kite-boarding and mountain biking. |
Anna TunnicliffeOlympic Medalist; Skipper, Team Tunnicliffe; Internationally Acclaimed Sailor Born in Doncaster, England, Anna has come to sail for the US Olympic Sailing Team winning the first US gold medal for sailing, in over 20 years: 2008 Laser Radials, Gold Medalist. She has been elected Rolex ISAF World Sailor of the year 2009, and Rolex US Sailing Yachtswoman of the Year three years running: 2008, 2009, 2010.
