As the oldest and largest public sailing center in the U.S., Community Boating Inc. recognizes their role in improving and preserving the health of the local waterway, the Charles River. Community Boating, Inc. serves over 7,500 members annually across its youth and adult programs, offering sailing and other water sports to people of all ages, abilities, and means in the greater Boston area. Through the Keep Our River Clean (KORC) initiative, Community Boating Inc. is committed to promoting sustainable practices including reducing single-use plastic and trash waste at the center’s boathouse, creating a sustainability team to educate members and visitors on how to reduce their environmental impact, and holding community events to highlight issues and actions individuals can take to keep the Charles River clean.
Community Boating, Inc. (CBI) is the nation’s oldest public sailing program incorporated in 1946. For over 70 years, adults and children from the greater Boston metropolitan area have sailed, kayaked, paddleboarded, and windsurfed each summer at Community Boating. By eliminating both economic and social barriers to sailing, CBI has become a true melting pot for kids and adults from every neighborhood and community. The mission of Community Boating, Inc. is to enable “Sailing for All”. We offer sailing and other water sports to people of all ages, abilities, and means, in the greater Boston area. We promote an accessible and welcoming environment that encourages “learning, volunteerism, and community spirit.
