11th Hour Racing’s Impact at Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series

At 11th Hour Racing we are in a privileged position to inspire the next generation through sport, and our partnership with Land Rover BAR is instrumental in engaging with wide audiences. At each Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series event, we collaborate with the team to set up youth engagement activities, around the themes of ocean health and sustainability.

At the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series stop in Toulon we had the pleasure of meeting with a group of 14 young sailors from the Yacht Club de Toulon. Representatives from Land Rover BAR included sailors Jono Macbeth and Matt Cornwall, and team members Sacha Kemp and Alejandra Real (who acted as translator). Our Program Director Todd McGuire led the activity which included talking about marine debris, that had been collected locally, and informing the young sailors how long it takes different items to biodegrade.

After learning about marine debris Todd demonstrated how to make reusable bags from old t-shirts. If you want to learn how to make your own reusable bag from an old t-shirt watch the video here.

Following the demonstration, the young sailors had the opportunity to ask the team members questions and then were given pencil pouches made from the sails of Land Rover BAR’s first AC45 test boat “T1”.
