Amica Newport Marathon

11th Hour Racing is the Official Sustainability Partner of the 16th annual Amica Newport Marathon, supporting its ongoing mission to reduce the event’s environmental impact while preserving Newport’s natural beauty for future generations. This collaboration will introduce new sustainable initiatives and amplify the event’s efforts.

With 13.1 and 26.2 miles of oceanfront running, the team takes great pride in leaving the Amica Newport Marathon venue and course in better shape than when they found it. With the effects of climate change becoming increasingly apparent, it is crucial to take proactive steps to minimize the event’s environmental footprint.

Initiatives supported by 11th Hour Racing:

  • Zero-waste stations will include composting and recycling to divert waste from entering the Central Landfill. Compostable waste will be processed at Ragged Island Brewing in Portsmouth, R.I.
  • Measuring the event’s waste footprint in efforts to minimize waste year over year.
  • Provide canned water to race participants.
  • A dedicated crew will clean the race course, ensuring all visible waste is picked up.
  • No plastic wrapping on the 4,000 athlete shirts; shirts are offered on an opt-in basis to reduce waste.
  • Partnering with Bike Newport to encourage biking to the start/finish line, with added bike racks.
  • Water refilling stations to reduce plastic bottle use.
  • Encouraging carpooling and walking to reduce traffic and emissions.
  • Volunteer groups and signage will protect Easton’s Beach dunes and divert people to walk along the designated footpaths.
