The Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe is a premier solo transatlantic sailing race, bringing together elite offshore sailors for a challenging crossing from Saint-Malo, France, to Guadeloupe. As an Official Institutional Supporter, 11th Hour Racing will help advance the race’s commitment to ocean conservation and sustainable event practices through initiatives focused on reducing waste, protecting marine wildlife, and engaging audiences around ocean health.

Initiatives supported by 11th Hour Racing

  • Creation of a Cetacean Protection Zone along the race route, helping to promote greater awareness and protection of marine wildlife.
  • The Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe will dedicate “Ocean Day” during the race village to highlighting ocean sustainability and the work of partners advancing positive change in the marine industry, with athlete testimonials and onsite programming.
  • Water refill stations will be provided throughout the race village to encourage reusable water bottles and reduce single-use plastic waste.
  • Sustainable event operations, including composting, reducing carbon footprint, and minimizing waste.

Background

Created in 1978 by Michel Etevenon, the Route du Rhum – Destination Guadeloupe is the premier solo transatlantic sailing race. For 44 years, it has connected Saint-Malo in Brittany with Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe, bringing together the biggest field in ocean racing on a single starting line.

Covering a total distance of 3,542 nautical miles, this transatlantic race has achieved legendary status. Its magic lies in the diversity of the classes and the mix of sailing disciplines. The biggest names in sailing, along with professional and amateur sailors, come together every four years to experience “the magic of the Rhum.”
