Running event’s community commitment continues as 2025 editions draw near

Rhode Races & Events is proud to announce 11th Hour Racing as its Official Sustainability Partner for the Newport and Providence Rhode Races. This collaborative partnership will seek to further advance our commitment to sustainability through amplified recycling and composting efforts, reducing single-use products, and promoting environmental responsibility.

Rhode Races, through its relationship with Epic Renewal, will provide clearly branded receptacles throughout the marathon venues, encouraging both runners and spectators to properly dispose of recyclable and compostable materials. This initiative aims to minimize each event’s environmental footprint and raise awareness about the importance of sustainable practices.

Additional efforts include the use of Hiccups reusable cups on the course and Boxed Water at the finish line. These two changes reduce the amount of trash on our courses and in our waste containers.

“We are thrilled to partner with 11th Hour Racing, which shares our dedication to sustainability,” said Susan Rancourt, Co-Founder of Rhode Races. “By joining forces with 11th Hour Racing, Epic Renewal, and Eastern RI Conservation District, we are creating a powerful coalition dedicated to minimizing our environmental impact and promoting responsible waste management.”

11th Hour Racing places a strong emphasis on the connection between land and water — because what happens on land affects our ocean and waterways. “This sponsorship is enabling us to elevate our sustainability efforts and implement some operational changes that we have been focusing on for a few years,” said Karen Zyons, Rhode Races Co-Founder and COO. “We’re proud to partner with 11th Hour Racing, Epic Renewal, and Eastern RI Conservation District to promote recycling and environmental stewardship within the local community. By providing consistent messaging at our venue, on our courses, and in our pre-race communication, we hope to make it easy for everyone to participate in this important effort.”

Rhode Races and Events encourages all participants and attendees to utilize the proper waste receptacles throughout the race weekend and contribute to a greener event. Registration for both events is open, with the Newport Rhode Races happening on April 19th starting and finishing at Easton’s Beach in Newport, RI, and Providence Rhode Races following on May 4th, 2025 at Bold Point Park, East Providence. Those interested in participating can sign up on the Rhode Races’ website.
