The Best of 2013
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. – Mark Twain
It’s been a talent packed 2013! On the water and on shore, our group of ambassadors have been influencing the sailing world. From Little Rhody to the Big Island of Hawaii, France, Ireland, Australia and many other locations in between, here is just part of a very long list of achievements.
- Hannah Jenner and the crew of Dorade won the Transpac Race
- Richard Jepsen’s OCSC was named one of Outside Magazine’s top 100 best places to work
From regatta to classroom, our ambassadors have helped catch the eyes and ears of many who are now spreading the messages and more importantly, actions, that will keep us and future generations recreating on our worlds precious waters.
The hydro foiling, super fast, low impact Moth has swept, or more accurately, buzzed through the world of sailing. In 2013 we proudly sponsored the class and are even more proud of the fact that a US Moth class member Bora Gulari is now World Champion! Make no mistake, the class is not just about speed, they took on the task of reducing as much waste as possible at each event they attended this year. In a class of boat where sailing over a plastic bag in the water is the equivalent of driving your car into a guard rail on the highway, they are invested in maintaining water quality and ensuring that the locations in which they sail are well looked after. The International Moth Class Association, presented by 11th Hour Racing was awarded with the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas, silver status at the 2013 Moth Worlds, held in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, and the Moth North Americans.
Our most recent sponsorship, Team 11th Hour Racing took on the Transat Jacques Vabre in November. Racing across the Atlantic Ocean from France to Brazil, the dynamic duo, Hannah Jenner and Rob Windsor, took on the elements as well as 11 winning solutions. From micro greens to hydro generators, Five Gyres data collecting and freeze-dried dinners, this team showed the world just how precious our natural resources are and how small modifications can influence and perpetuate positive change.
Our proud moments of 2013 encourage us to continue to make connections, raise awareness and support positive change for the health and future of our waters.
