What inspired you to become an 11th Hour Racing ambassador?
As an ocean journalist in the Pulitzer Center’s Ocean Reporting Network, I am exposed to some phenomenal marine storytelling from around the world. But I feel like it is often siloed in media circles, and doesn’t always reach natural ocean advocates like surfers, fishers, or swimmers.
I really align with 11th Hour Racing’s mission to use ocean sport to inspire ocean conservation and believe that if more people could understand what is happening to our sea right now, maybe there would be more collective action to protect our ocean. I hope that my newsletter can help to provide more information for these ocean enthusiasts.
Why are you passionate about ocean conservation?
From learning to surf with my grandparents to fishing with my parents, the ocean is a deeply important throughline in my life. I grew up on Long Island, New York, and the waters where I clammed or waterskied have fundamentally changed since I was a kid. After seeing firsthand the decline of these ecosystems that mean so much to me personally, I am motivated to try to protect these marine resources for the next generation and beyond.
